JEAN HARLOW At 16 she caught the eye of Hal Roach, film-comedy kingpin. By 19 she was courted by Howard Hughes, landing a starring role in his 1930 picture, 'Hells Angels'. By 26 her life would be cut short due to illness, but for one riotous spell Harlow was white-hot, advancing from bit player to bombshell to accomplished screen comedienne ('Red Dust', 'Dinner at Eight'). Here, Hurrell used milky shoulders, caressing sidelight, and a vanquished bear to create the consummate image of the Platinum Siren.
